How to Keep Your Dentures Clean and White
It can take some adjusting to get used to wearing dentures or denture partials when you first receive them. At the Avalon Dental Center of Cambridge, MA, we want you to learn everything there is to know about caring for your new teeth. Not only can we provide you with a well-fitting and affordable set, we’ll also teach you how to maintain them for longevity and oral health.
Oral Hygiene with Synthetic Teeth
Even though your new teeth are prosthetic, it is still vital for you to keep up with your regular exams, to brush after every meal, and to floss daily. Make sure that you purchase a toothbrush with soft bristles and use toothpaste made specifically for your denture set. This helps prevent scratching and wearing that could occur with a hard toothbrush or regular abrasive toothpastes. You should also rinse after every meal to flush out any remaining food particles that could become trapped between the teeth – causing buildup, odor, and eventually gum disease.
Caring for your Denture Set
Your denture set should always stay moist; so be sure to store them in water whenever you aren’t wearing them. However, be careful not to use hot water or you could cause them to warp. Soaking keeps them moist; and when using an enzymatic or effervescent solution, soaking also removes germs and plaque.
